Job Description
The company has in place established procedures for change control that are currently administered and applied by the Quality Assurance team. The successful applicant will be expected to take on and augment the existing procedures moving towards a change management approach.
This post is based in the company’s London offices and will initially report to the Senior Configuration Management Technician. The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following duties:
Change Management responsibilities:
- Review all software and configuration changes that are requested for the next release, ensuring that adequate information is provided to implement all changes.
- To implement on a daily basis all changes in to the Release Candidate test region
- To perform a basic check on the upgraded region
- To maintain an instruction sheet that will be used to upgrade existing master test regions to the next release baseline.
- To maintain a change control sheet of all changes applied.
- To administer the change control process. This involves distributing the change control sheet to the Change Control Board (CCB) and tracking and consolidating feedback for the CCB.
- To analyze and where troubleshoot configuration issues, with the assistance of other technical experts within the company.
- This post covers both legacy and new technology applications developed by the company.
- Release upgrades – client and master test regions
- To perform upgrades of instances of client regions held on site at Wall Street Systems to release baselines. This requires analysis of client’s current usage of the system, configuration, and comparison with release baselines. Maintaining a client specific instruction sheet for clients and/or Wallstreet staff to use when performing the upgrade on their own site.
Required Skills and Experience
This post provides an excellent opportunity as a next career step or for a bright graduate in a challenging environment. The Wall Street FX and Back Office system is a complex system with many moving parts. The post therefore requires someone with good all round technical skills who will be quick to learn the specifics of the system.
Experience
- Some proven experience in a technical support role
- Exposure to continuous integration techniques used in agile development methodology would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience of upgrading software releases would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience of change control would also be a distinct advantage.
Technical Skills
- Linux or Unix at a good user level
- Experience of SQL queries or entry level DBA
- Scripting knowledge would be an added advantage
- Exposure to the configuration of Java application servers would be an advantage
- Windows server exposure would also be an advantage
Skills and Education
- Qualified candidates will have an academic degree in Software Engineering or in Computer Science, or have a professional qualification
- The candidate will be a bright individual with a flair and awareness for quality and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, trouble-shooting, problem solving, documenting skills with an innovative approach to problem solving.
- Able to develop an in-depth knowledge of the technical environment of web based and client server based architectures is required, opened to learning new tools and skills as required
- Flexible, self motivated and service minded
- Team player, able to work independently as well as within a team
- Organised, and with a structured way of working.
- Able to work to tight deadlines
- Dedicated 'can-do' attitude.
- Understand the change management processes involved with integrating software into a customer's business, whether Fortune 500 companies as well as middle and base market companies.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
