Job Description

As an accounting specialist, the senior consultant analyzes customer requirements for highly specialized financial systems, implements software functionality that meets these requirements, and manages functional specifications for customer specific development items. This role is to provide specific expertise and support for the implementation of Accounting and Hedge Accounting functionality on client projects.

The qualified accountant will have experience of financial software implementations and will be an expert in the impact of the various regional and international accounting standards, with a demonstrable currency in the details of these standards as well as plans and discussion papers covering future changes. Practical experience and involvement of implementing and supporting Treasury Management systems is required.

The role will involve discussing the various accounting standards, their interpretation, application and relevance to clients and prospects alike and how these are addressed with our applications and their configuration. Such discussions will likely be held with dedicated accounting specialists within the client or prospects own organisation, so an ability to discuss their complex application in a trading and treasury environment with confidence and credibility is essential.

Training and mentoring other consultants is a key element of the role. This individual will also have a responsibility for sharing his/her specialist knowledge across departments and functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing accurate and considered analysis of accounting and business issues along with appropriate solutions to meet the client’s requirements.
  • Creation of Business Requirements and Functional Specifications as part of any customization process including planning, documentation and execution of supporting test cases.
  • Configuration of the Application to accurately represent the clients business and meet their functional requirements
  • Assistance to plan, perform and document testing of new and existing functionality to defined specifications/ requirements.
  • Provide creative and practical accounting solutions to facilitate improved client processes and smooth project implementation
  • Deliver quality training to clients enhancing company Education Services brand
  • Support pre-sales, scoping and requirement definition programmes

Required Experience

  • 7 or more years experience in the financial industry, ideally working in a large corporate, financial institution, application vendor or a consulting practice
  • At least 5 years of applying Accounting and Regulatory concepts in either a treasury, corporate control, banking and preferably an industry related software environment
  • Past experience of dealing with Accounting bodies and firms
  • Experience of global accounting support concepts including cash and intercompany accounting would be advantageous
  • Proven experience of delivering presentations and proven documentation skills in defining business processes and solutions around accounting policy
  • A proven track record in project work
  • Thorough understanding of treasury functions within a corporate treasury

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, CPA or equivalent)
  • A solid understanding of US GAAP including FAS 133, 115, 138 and 157/159
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting treatment of Financial Instruments across corporate and financial markets.
  • Solid understanding of capital markets
  • Experience in working with and configuring Treasury Management systems.
  • Knowledge of IFRS with a specialization in the rules affecting treasury and banking, particularly IAS 39, IAS 27, IAS 32
  • Hedge Accounting knowledge, especially the law and its various interpretations. Practical experience would be preferred.
  • An understanding of Regulatory Capital Concepts and the impact of BASEL II
  • Excellent analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Good Customer relationship and interpersonal skills
  • Deep knowledge of financial industry, instruments and market processes
  • An enthusiasm for taking responsibility and a passion for knowledge
  • A self-motivated and hard working individual who is goal orientated, able to work with minimal supervision and is a key contributor to the team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and to identify and resolve project issues quickly and effectively.
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written.
  • Must be willing to travel
